The World of Robert Mondavi Winery

Est. 1966

“Walking through To Kalon, admiring its contours and vines, smelling the richness of its soil, I knew this was a very special place. It exuded an indefinable quality I could not describe, a feeling that was almost mystical.”

Winery

Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for Robert Mondavi Winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature wine, Fume Blanc.

Director of Winemaking

Kurtis Ogasawara, Director of Winemaking is helping shape Robert Mondavi Winery’s future legacy as the winery continues a historic transformation to cement its stature as the defining fine wine leader in Napa Valley.

Kurtis has contributed his talents to a number of estate wine programs and played an integral role in To Kalon Vineyard achieving organic certification through California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Working for Robert Mondavi Winery has been “like a dream,” Kurtis says. “The amount of history here is staggering."

Our vines flow down the hill and across the valley floor with the sun beaming down.

Commitment

Robert Mondavi is a Napa Green Certified winery. In partnership with the Napa County Resource Conservation District, we created the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group (NSWG) which holds several annual workshops on topics such as water conservation, quality improvement, cover cropping, erosion control and pest management. Robert Mondavi was the first winery to receive an Innovator Award from California's Environmental Protection Agency.

Vineyards

To Kalon Vineyard.

To Kalon, Oakville

To Kalon Vineyard is recognized as one of the finest "Grand Cru" vineyards of the world. Ancient Greek for “the highest beauty,” it provides us with grapes for our world-class Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, and is the exclusive source of our Fumé Blanc Reserve.

Wappo Hill, Stags Leap

Wappo Hill Vineyard is located on 400 acres below the steep jagged cliffs of the Stags Leap palisades. This region's gravely, clay loam soil, cliffs that reflect the afternoon sun, and nearby bay breezes maintaining cool morning and evening temperatures provide wines with balanced acidity, velvety texture and ripe fruit flavors.

Carneros

Los Carneros AVA (Spanish for "the sheep") spans the southernmost portion of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, just north of San Pablo Bay, where exposure to ocean breezes makes this the Napa Valley’s coolest vineyard area. The location is ideally suited for our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in the cool, lengthy growing season with warm summer days tempered by marine winds and fog.
